Our company name Hevea is from the Latin name for the rubber tree, Hevea Brasiliensis. The natural rubber it produces is the foundation of our product range. Using natural rubber, rather than synthetic rubber made from oil, acts against climate change by increasing the number of trees and cutting back on the use of fossil fuels.
We truly want to be sustainable and strive to do our best to be a responsible company right through all of our business practices. We face many challenges, some of which are very difficult, but we continue to look for innovative ways to overcome those challenges to reduce, re-use, re-cycle and even up-cycle if possible.
At Hevea we are happy to announce that all our packaging is now FSC certified. The FSC trademark on paper is a guarantee that the paper (or timber) comes from a responsibly managed forest, which helps prevent deforestation and degradation. This is important for millions of people who depend on forests for their livelihoods, but of course also for the overall environment.
Hevea pacifiers, teethers and bath toys are made of 100% natural rubber, which is biodegradable, and a sustainable resource. Natural rubber has the ability to be broken down physically and/or chemically by microorganisms – usually requiring exposure to sunlight, air and moisture.
MALAYSIAN RUBBER BOARD
Hevea uses natural rubber tapped in Malaysia. We pay a percentage of the raw rubber costs to the Malaysian Rubber board, which in return helps to create a sustainable industry by replanting rubber trees and investing in research & development towards sustaining the viability of the rubber industry in Malaysia. We like to reuse things, as this is both beneficial to the environment and, often, a cost saving. We reuse all packaging which we get. For example, we have so far never had to buy any additional envelopes. We always save and reuse leftovers from our packaging for businesscards, post cards, memory games and in-store material. And we also encourage you to reuse our product packaging where possible – see some of the great ideas on Facebook.
Our accessories are made from pure organic cotton, which meets the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS). The cotton is grown without the use of chemical herbicides, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and no harmful chemicals or solvents are used in the processing.
We regard recycling as an essential component of our operation as it is a key environmental issue. At Hevea we recycle our office waste as much as possible including bottles and kitchen waste. We also encourage and support our manufacturers recycling efforts on their production lines by requesting ISO certification.
As soon as we can operate our business with no CO2 emissions we will do so. In the meanwhile, as part of our ongoing commitment to reduce our carbon footprint, we buy European CO2 credits to ensure all our transport is carbon neutral.
We have also acquired CO2 credits to make our website carbon neutral. The result is green, climate-friendly surfing for our customers and visitors.
So what do we do to ensure that our products are safe and of the highest quality? We test all of our products with well-known international companies such as SGS, Intertek and Bureau Veritas, to meet standards in Europe, US, Canada, and Australia.
Hevea pacifiers meet the standards of safety regulations EN1400, AS/NZS ISO 8124, and ASTM. We have had batch codes engraved on the front of each pacifier in order for us to identify the production date. In addition, we pull test every single pacifier to ensure it can withstand the stress of usage. In the extremely unlikely event that you notice any changes to the product, please discard it immediately.
Our bath toys, toys and teethers all comply with safety regulations EN 71, AUS/NZ ISO, and ASTM.
For the pacifier holders we have chosen to add a wooden clip to ensure that we comply with EN12586 standards which are very hard to meet.
